70mm wheels on a Penny Nickel

Holy Cow, these wheels are big and bright.  I finally got around to mounting the 70mm Orangatang 4Presidents that I got last week.  I put them on a Nickel with Independent 109s.  I didn't use any risers, expecting that I would add them later, but so far I don't think I am going to.  I took it out for a little while at night and then some more the next day.  There was a little footbite here and there, but nothing too bad.

I had 60mm wheels on the Nickel before, so this is a decent jump in size.  The differences mild but noticeable.  Seems a little taller, but because the 4presidents are pretty wide it doesn't feel tippy at all.  Also, it seems to carry speed a little better.  That probably has some to do with the size, but also that they are a little harder than the wheels they replaced.  That makes them a little louder but my roads are pretty smooth so not too much.  

I don't think wheels this big are going to become my standard, mostly because the roads and sidewalks around here are pretty nice.  That said, I would absolutely go to 70mm wheels on a Nickel if you have a problem with rough streets, although I would probably get them a little softer than these.

Creature Riprider - standard new school

comes with Bullet 105s, will work with any new school drilled truck in that size range

Fish Skateboards - non standard, a little smaller than old school

Mine came as deck only, will work with Penny or Stereo trucks, or with minor drilling any old school truck with about a 6" axle.

Mine came as deck only, will work with any old school drilled trucks, size depends on your preference.

Nickel and Penny Skateboards.

I have a new board on the way and should have it by mid or end of this week that i am excited about,  In the meantime I have been playing with some pics on my phone to make some instagram shots and iphone backgrounds.

And, not skate related, but some of you might think this is cool.

Penny Vs. Globe Bantam Vs. Nickel

Because there is a crazy storm over florida now I haven't been able to skate or take any photos for a few days.  So here are some old ones that i took around the time I got the Globe Bantam and never got around to posting.  Just some comparison pics of a Penny, a Globe Bantam and a Nickel.  THere is more detail on my thoughts on the Bantam on this post:

All three are fun.  Since this pic, I have switched the Nickel's trucks over to 100mm Surf Rods and put Penny Wheels on it, just like the Penny.  This has made it ride just about perfect for me.  I have also swapped out the Bantams trucks a few times and am having trouble finding something just right.  I have Ace 00s hangers in Indy baseplates now and they are okay, but its still just not there yet.  

I did put a sheet of grip tape on the Globe as well.  I am of the opinion that grip tape is needed on any of these plastic skateboards.  Everyone I get I try it for a while without and it never feels right.  I do ride the Penny and Nickel more than the Bantam so far, but who knows if that will change when I find the perfect trucks for the Bantam.

Nicole's 5th Time Skateboarding!!!

We didn't try out any boards that were new to Nicole this trip.  We just went skating and then for a sunset and dinner with our friends Jason and Kylie.  Nicole is getting pretty good, and Kylie is not bad for only going out s few times either. 

We took the Green Banana Eco Cruiser, Nicole's favorite board, and the Penny Nickel, one of my favorites.

I had just received a Diff case that has the mount for lenses for my phone so I took a bunch of photos with a fisheye lens.  I have to use it more to decide if I like it, but it is the only secure way I have found to mount the lenses.  The little magnetic rings they come with just don't cut it.
