Blood Orange Bushings

I moved some things around and ended up with the 100mm Sorf Rodz on one of the Fish Skateboards decks.  They had Nipples in them which I really liked but I had these Blood Oranges laying around and wanted to try them out.  They are good, and after anything else I may have liked them more, but after a little riding, I like the Nipples better.  That may change after more ride time though.
They are all barrels, 5/8" tall and 1" across.
They have 5 hardnesses, these are labeled soft.  No durometer listed.

  1. Hey, HUGE fan of your blog. I just got a Penny Nickel a few weeks ago, first board ever. Im madly in love with it. Ive already upgraded the bearings to some Bones Reds. My next step is getting some new bushings but I have no clue to which hardness to get. Any help? I was looking into Bones Hardcore, I hear a lot of great things about them. Would they fit my Nickel & what hardness would be good? Thanks a bunch. Keep posting.

  2. Thank You for looking at it, glad you enjoy.
Congratulations on the Nickel. It is a really fun board. The Reds are a good first step, next with the bushings think about adding some grip tape. I think that makes a big difference too.
For the bushings I try a bunch and am using Bones on a couple setups. What do you weigh? For most peoples weight Bones Hardcore Mediums are a great starting point. They may be perfect and you can stop right there. If not, how you feel about them will help me suggest other options.
    Thanks again, enjoy that board.

  3. I weigh in at 185. I was also thinking of getting griptape, I really like the Penny griptape since it comes pre-cut & has the penny logo cut out, I think that would looks really rad but I've heard its not that great. Have you tried it out?? Any remarks on that?

    1. Yeah, at 185 the Mediums will be just about right. Give them a shot and let me know what you think. My Penny is due for a regrip. I have Jessup on it now, that is what I usually use. I have been thinking about trying the Penny, if you do before I get around to it, let me know what you think about it too.
As far as the hole in the grip tape, its not too hard to do. I put the grip tape on then stand on the board for a while so i can see the outline of the circle around the logo and the edges of the board. Then really slow and carefully, trace those edges with something metal. I use just a little chunk of metal I found somewhere. The corner of a file or a screwdriver will work, anything hard that will wear off the grip. Once the grit is worn off, it will be barely holding on and it will be easy to cleanly cut with a razor blade. I thought about making a video of that process, maybe now is a good time.
