Stereo Vinyl Cruiser Setup

I am done with this one I think.  This is the setup I like after trying a bunch of things with the Stereo Vinyl Cruiser.
Stereo Vinyl Cruiser deck with grip tape applied.
Tracker Midtracks, with Rt-S baseplate on the front and Dart baseplate on the rear.
Venom SHR olive barrel, 80a and Khiro yellow small cone, 92a on the front truck.
Venom SHR yellow barrel, 83a and Khiro yellow small cone, 92a on the rear truck.
Bennett Aligators, 62mm and 78a.
Bones Swiss bearings.
Lucky 1" hardware.

  2. Dearest Anonymous,
Do you mean that literally or figuratively? If you mean it figuratively, the thing in the top photo is the "fucking skateboard." Also if you look to the right of the post there are links to other posts with many pictures of this and other skateboards that you could look at.
If you meant it literally, do you want to see it "fucking" another skateboard, a cute lady, or me? If you meant me, just forget it, that is not my thing. If you meant another skateboard, I will think about that but right now I am not sure how to make that work. If you meant a lady, I do not think that would be safe. Even If I could get a condom over the board I feel like the grip tape would rip the condom. And I am sure we have all had sex on a beach. A few grains of sand can be uncomfortable, imagine a whole sheet of grip tape. No thank you. You have bad ideas Anon.

But seriously, If you want to see a specific angle or close up let me know and I will take and post them.

  3. LOL ^ whoever that guy was, what a straight doucher...very smooth reaction (btw, I'm the one who asked you so many questions about the Stereo and its truck compatibility).
Anyways, I got some Bones Reds for Christmas, and I'm about to throw them on my Stereo cruiser. Hope they have as drastic an improvement as I hope they will...the old bearings were garbage even after loosening the axle nut.

  4. That is awesome, they should make a big difference out of the box and even more so once you get them broken in. Enjoy!

  5. This is a classy setup. Considering some mixed midtracks as above. I have an old cal-240 plastic with broken trucks I want to try them on. Just about the same wheelbase as the Stereo vinyl without the little kick. I tried some big trucks and it was just kinda weird.

  6. Thanks, I like the feel of Midtracks on these sized boards.
That should be a good fit. It seems like the pivot cup and bushing seat are molded into the cal 240s. Did you have to modify it a lot or was it flat where the trucks mount? Either way, fun project.

  7. I think they had different generation of cal-240's. I must've had an early one at first because it had trucks that screwed into the bottom of the board. I ended up breaking the fairly weak baseplate to my utter disappointment. When I found another online it was the style with the kingpin screwed into the bottom of the board and no baseplate. Didn't seem to turn quite as nice as the one with the actual trucks, but perhaps that's because I was bending the baseplate with every turn.

All I needed to do to ready the board was commit to drilling some holes and deciding how and where to put em. A few errors aside I think I got them fairly centered. I drilled it old school to make it a bit more era appropriate. I put some Paris 150s on for a laugh and found they sat incredibly high. Kinda scary. I wish I had some tiny bennetts for it as that's what the original "universal" trucks kinda looked like. Trackers to follow I think.

I'm also considering using the cal-240 as a template to cut out a mini from an old wood deck. I'm sure all projects will go out the window once it's warm enough to skate. Might be 50 today...

  8. Yeah, I did that some years ago, drilled new holes in a 60s Nash sidewalk surfer with chicago style trucks and clay wheels to run updated trucks. Wish I wouldnt have and just left it as a wall hanger now.
RKP 150s on that board had to look pretty interesting. I would love to have some old school bennetts. I have some 4.3s and they turn awesome. I have thought about cutting a set down to use on a Penny or Nickel. I cut some Randall 150s down to about 110s before they started making 125s. They felt awful, way too tippy though so I might just be ruining a perfectly good set of Bennets if I do.
I have made a ton of decks, eventually building a couple foamcores. I thing there is a pic or two of them somewhere on here. I started by cutting down my old street decks. Go for it but be warned, It is easy to get addicted to trying to create the perfect deck.
And good luck with that weather.

  9. I'm very into trying some bennetts on something. Have you tried them on the lil nanner? Seems like a good fit width wise.

  10. Not yet, I had the Bennetts on a Flexdex Classic 29 for quite a while befor moving them over to the Nickel. I have Indy 129's on the Lil' Nanner. Not so much because they are the best for the board, more that I like them and its the only thing they work well on being new school holes and that wide. Bennets feel nice on everything I have tried them on though, very turny.

  11. Just got some Bennetts! On a classic 29 of all things from Craigslist. They do turn well. It's an older deck...he put 5.0's on it with the wedged front dewedged rear. I've been pretty curious about the Bennetts so it was a nice find. The flexdex feels weird! Fun though. Do they get more saggy over time? It's pretty old and verrry flexy. It's from before they did the multiple drill holes. Might drill some new holes to adjust the flex. Or not. Bennetts are pretty cool and the wedging is interesting. Maybe they'd be cool on a GBS Eco crusiser.

  12. Bennetts on a nickel sounds sweet.

  13. That is a great score. I got one of those Khiro wedge kits and played with wedging different trucks for a while. I do not do it often now, I think another flexdex, the slalom v30 is the only setup I still have wedged.
I remember the 29 being super flexy even new.
I like that eco cruiser, I posted a pic of one today.
I am going to take some pics of the Nickel with the Bennets soon and post them, I like it a lot, Im just having trouble finding a set of wheels that feel right on it.

  14. man i really dig your work and everything. can you please answer me this important question>?

in order to mount up a fresh set of tracker 85mm sweet little trucks in my stereo vinyl cruiser will i really need to 'redrill' them or something? it says for the old school baseplate pattern and i hate to 'redrill' anything except for that cherry hardware lol.

the stock trucks sorta bum me out. no easy or good quality pivot cup replacement wawawa lol. cheers dudemate peace.

    1. Yes, you have to take a drill to 2 of the 4 holes for each truck. They are close but you will never get them on otherwise. I put 2 through and tighten them up then drill right through the other 2 holes in the baseplate. It only takes a few minutes and you really do not remove much material.

  15. and what about the sweet gunmetal pistol baby trucks as they seem to be equipped with the stock 6 hole pattern./?

  16. 6 hole will be drilled to mount to a new school drilled deck or an old school drilled deck. The Penny and Stereo are drilled just shy of old school mounting. So they still wont fit unless you drill the deck. The outside holes will be a little to far apart and the inside holes will be too close together.

  17. Weird. My Tracker Midtracks fit on my stereo without redrilling. It was a tight fit, but I tapped them through. The board is quite nice now with the new trucks as the stock ones weren't to my liking.

  18. Thats a surprise, I wonder if they started drilling the decks with a little more play? Thats awesome, I love the Midtracks on that board.

  19. They are the dart baseplates. Definitely not perfectly aligned, though easy to tap the hardware through.

I put soft bones bushings in this weekend and switched out the stock wheels for 70mm retro zig zags off of another board. It cooks without too much bite from the bigger wheels. Almost too fast (given the wheelbase) for the hills around Seattle.

  20. Those are huge. I have a set of them in Lemon/Lime. I tried them on the Nickel. You are right, once they get moving they really go.
